…….thanksgiving has come and gone and we are slap in the middle of the Christmas season. A season in our culture that is known for being a busy time. Yes we usually find time in all of the rush to reflect on the birth of Jesus and spend time with our loved ones, but that doesn’t seem to be the priority.
All of this reminds me of the story of Martha and Mary. Jesus came into their village and Martha opened her home up to Jesus. Jesus then proceeds to do what he so often did, teach. As he was speaking Mary sat at his feet taking in everything he said while Martha was distracted by all of the preparations that had to be made. Just then Martha came to Jesus and asked,“Lord, doesn’t it bother you that my sister has left me to do all the work by myself? Tell her to come and help me!” The Lord answered, “Martha, Martha! You are worried and upset about so many things, but only one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen what is best, and it will not be taken away from her.”
Mary choose that one thing that Jesus said was necessary, she choose
While Martha was rushing around trying to do this and that working herself into a tizzy, Mary was sitting at the feet of Jesus. And as Jesus said “Mary has chosen what is best, and it will not be taken away from her.”
So, during this Christmas season will you choose to “Be Present”?
Or will you be like Martha rushing around to do this and that, worrying and getting upset about so many things and miss out on another opportunity to be with friends, family and most of all Jesus?
